(Mar 2014) On this 2nd sample test, I was shooting in a shaded area, where again, the auto-focus would not lock in on dark areas. I experimented with using the "Manual" focus and it seemed to look fine. I went with the "Aperture" priority setting and set the aperture wide open, and switched to "Spot Metering".
